-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=--==- This is the original file -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-= A CREDO for Compassionate Capitalism
Credo 1 We believe that every man, woman and child is created in God’s image and because of that each has worth, dignity, and unique potential. Therefore, we can dream great dreams for ourselves and for others!
Credo 2 We believe that most people feel that they are not living up to their potential and are grateful for any practical, realistic help they can get to change for the better. Therefore, we all need to take an honest look at where we are, where we want to be, and what we may need to change to get there.
Credo 3 We believe that change for the better begins when we order our lives around those individuals and institution that we value most, for example: God, country, family, friendship, school and work. Therefore, we need to decide what we want to be and do, and we need to arrange our goals accordingly.
Credo 4 We believe that getting our finances in order -- paying off our debts, learning to share with others, setting financial limits and faithfully living with them – is the beginning of getting our lives free to move forward. Therefore, we need to get our bills paid and our financial priorities in order.
Credo 5 We believe that work is good only if it leads the worker to freedom, reward, recognition, and hope. Therefore, if our work is not satisfying (financially, spiritually, psychologically), we need to end that work as quickly as we can and begin work that is.
Credo 6 We believe in capitalism (another name for free enterprise) because it provides us and our world our one great hope for economic recovery. Therefore, if we don’t know what capitalism is or how it works, we must find out now. Our financial future depends on it!
Credo 7 We believe that practicing compassionate capitalism is the secret to real financial success. Therefore, we need to ask ourselves daily: “How compassionate am I in caring for my co-workers, my supervisor, my employer or my employees, my suppliers, my customers, and even my competitors and what difference does it make?”
Credo 8 We believe that owning our own business (to supplement or replace our current income) is the best way to guarantee our personal freedom, and our family’s financial future. Therefore, we should seriously consider starting our own business or becoming more entrepreneurial in our current business or profession
Credo 9 We believe that developing a positive, hopeful attitude is necessary to reach our goals. Therefore, with our mentor’s help, we should design a program (using books, tapes, special meetings and events, associations with friends and co-workers, recreation, and worship) that will help us develop a positive, hopeful, productive attitude about our life and its potential.
Credo 10 We believe that before we can succeed as a compassionate capitalist, we must have an experienced mentor to guide us. Therefore, we need to find someone whom we admire who has already achieved what we want to achieve and ask that person to help us reach our goals.
Credo 11 We believe that success comes only to those who establish goals and then work diligently to achieve them. Therefore, with our mentor’s help, we should begin immediately to determine our short-term and long-term goals, to write them down, to review our progress at every step, to celebrate the goals we accomplish, and to learn from those we don’t.
Credo 12 We believe that there are certain attitudes, behaviours, and commitments (related directly and indirectly to our tasks) that will help us reach our goals. Therefore, with our mentor’s help, we should begin immediately to master those ABC’s that will help us to succeed.
Credo 13 We believe in helping others to help themselves. When we share our time and money to help guide, teach, or encourage someone else, we are only giving back a part of what has already been given to us. Therefore, be a mentor. Whom could you help to reach his goals, to see his dreams come true?
Credo 14 We believe in helping others who cannot help themselves. When we share our time and money with those in need, we increase our own sense of dignity and self-worth, and we set in motion positive forces that bring hope and healing to the world. Therefore, be a giver. What are you doing to help end human suffering in your town and around the world? Credo 15 We believe in helping save the planet, our island home. When we share our time and money to help preserve the planet, we are really helping to protect ourselves. Therefore, be a friend of the earth. What could you do today to help preserve the planet?
Credo 16 We believe that when we share our time, money and experience to help others, we complete the circle of love that leads to our own personal fulfillment and prosperity. Therefore, whenever you grow weary of well doing, remember the Law of Compensation. In the long haul, every gift of time, money, or energy that you give will return to benefit you.
